HANDLERS MUST BE 16 YEARS OR OLDER

This is the 2017 Schedule for the Obedience Training Club of Wichita Falls.  We offer five (5) sessions per year year.  The sessions are eight weeks in length.  And the same types of classes will be held each Session.  The Therapy Dog Preparation Class will be held at the 2nd and 4th sessions.  If there are any questions, please contact Connie Haschke at 940-851-0694 or chdardar@aol.com

 

 Class Session Schedule – Year 2017:

 

  • 1st  Session - Begins on January 9 and ends on February 27
  • 2nd  Session - Begins on March 20 and ends on May 8
  • 3rd Session - Begins on June 5 and ends on July 31 (No Classes, Independence Day, July 4)
  • 4thSession - Begins on August 14 and ends on October 9 (No Classes, Labor Day, September 4)
  • 5th Session - Begins on October 23 and ends on December 11

THE ABOVE DATES ARE ORIENTATION DATES FOR EACH BEGINNING CLASS SESSION. WHEN YOU COME TO ORIENTATION, PLEASE BRING YOUR DOG'S VACCINATION RECORDS* WITH YOU, BUT LEAVE YOUR DOG AT HOME THAT FIRST DAY.  DOGS WILL ATTEND THE FOLLOWING DATES LISTED.

DOGS MUST BE CURRENT ON ALL VACCINATIONS, INCLUDING RABIES.  EXCEPT FOR PUPPIES YOUNGER THAN 4 MONTHS, THE RABIES IS NOT REQUIRED.  ALL DOGS RESIDING IN THE CITY LIMITS OF WICHITA FALLS, MUST HAVE A CITY LICENSE, WHICH CAN BE OBTAINED AT ANIMAL SERVICES ON HATTON ROAD, PETS CLINIC, OR MOST VET CLINICS.

OBEDIENCE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


PUPPY KINDERGARTEN (For puppies less than 6 months old)

Puppies learn social etiquette and basic manners in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Puppies this age are at their learning peak, and learn quickly how to please their owners and earn treats.  In addition, a health and behavioral topic such as house breaking, chewing, digging, proper nutrition, etc., will be presented each week. Current meeting time for this class:  Mondays – Time either:  6:00 or 7:00 PM

 


BEGINNER OBEDIENCE  (For dogs 6 months and older)

This is a basic pet manners class. Dogs are taught to heel on leash, sit, down, stay, stand for examination, and to come when called. Owners are also instructed on ways to prevent dogs from jumping, chewing, digging, and how to control an excitable dog. In addition, common health issues will be addressed each week. Current meeting times for this class: Mondays @ 6:00 PM. -- Mondays @ 7:00 PM -- Wednesdays @ 9:00 AM

Note: Wednesday morning classes are geared towards more mature citizens or those who can't attend the night classes - *The fee for this class is $65.


CANINE GOOD CITIZENSHIP CLASS (Beginner Obedience is required for this class)

This class is geared towards achieving the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification by the end of the session. Basic obedience commands will be worked on further, and students will also be introduced to the basics of clicker training. Current meeting time for this class: Wednesdays @ 6:00 PM (A minimum of 3 students is required for this class.)

 


ADVANCED OBEDIENCE (Beginner Obedience is required for this class) 

More emphasis will be placed on attention exercises and off leash work, including off-leash heeling, recalls, sit-stays and down-stays. Class teams will also receive an introduction to Rally Obedience, a very popular new dog sport which emphasizes dog/handler teamwork. Current meeting time for this class: Mondays @ 8:00 PM - when available


RALLY OBEDIENCE (Beginner Obedience is required for this class)

Rally Obedience is an interactive sport for dogs and their handlers. Rally-O combines many obedience exercises into agility-style courses. It's less stressful than regular obedience and not as fast-paced as agility, which makes it more fun for you both! Current meeting time for this class: Wednesdays @ 7:00 PM
