“Fascinating fact: Dogs have a sense of smell that’s between 10,000 and 100,000 times more
acute than ours! The sport of Scent Work celebrates the joy of sniffing and asks a dog to sniff to
their heart’s content, turning your dog’s favorite activity into a rewarding game. It is a terrific
sport for all kinds of dogs and is a wonderful way to build confidence in a shy dog.”
OTCWF offers the following Scent Work classes
Beginner Scent Work (offered twice per year)
The dog and handler will learn the basic scent work skills. This course covers basic interior and container searches.
Intermediate Scent Work
This is a progression of the Beginner course. Dogs and handlers will work on expanded interior and container searches. Teams will be introduced to Exterior searches and Handler Discrimination (dog’s ability to find handler’s scent.)
Advanced Scent Work
This is a progression of the Intermediate course. Dogs will continue to work on interior, container, exterior, and Handler Discrimination searches. At this level, the teams will also be introduced to vehicular searches.
Note: Because of high demand and limited enrollment space for Scent Work classes, please call or email in advance to be placed on our list.
